Presidents Day

On this Presidents Day I thought we would look at some of the gifts our Presidents have received. Strange but true. Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has given the Bush family over $127,000 in gifts last year. And that was just last year! By law the President and First Lady cannot keep anything with a value greater then $285.00. The rest just becomes federal property with a sweet catch. They can take items out on loan from the Archives.

Some of the items received were a $95,000 diamond and sapphire jewelry set for First Lady Laura Bush. An $8,500 silver and gold mantle clock and more diamonds and gold.

The Bush’s were not the only ones in the Bush administration to receive gifts. The Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld received a golden horse. The Secretary of State, Colin Powell received a silver sword and Chief of Staff, Andrew Card received some ivory handled ornamental daggers.

Okay, back to the real world. While you may not be a Saudi Prince you can still give a gift that is not only appreciated but delicious and well received.
