From our Web Master

Monday, October 18th, 2010

At Bob’s Gift Baskets we try to maintain a good clean web site and blog. This means that we have to look at each and every comment posted to the blog and edit out or trash the comment entirely. There are days when we receive hundreds of comments and this has just gotten too time consuming to handle manually.

This is because of automated comment posting by sites that have picked up our RSS feed and post comments containing often nothing but hundreds of links to other sites. The RSS feed was designed to be able to alert interested viewers whenever a new posting is posted, but it is being misused by these sites.

As a result. Bob’s Gift Baskets Blog has instituted an anti spam control. You will now be required to manually enter a code for your comment to be sent to us for approval. This will prevent the automated comment postings from even reaching our site and enable us to view and approve your comments.

We hope this little additional step on your comment posting will be of help in getting your comment posted.

Brought to you by Bob’s Gift Baskets

1767 – Mason Dixon Line Drawn. English surveyors Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon were hired by the Calvert and Penn families to settle a dispute over the boundaries between the colonies of Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Thomas Edison

1867 – U.S. Takes control of Alaska from Russia after purchasing the territory for 7.2 million dollars. The Alaska purchase encompassed 586,412 square miles which works out to less then 2 cents per acre. The purchase arranged by William Seward and later became known as Seward’s Folly.

1898 – U.S. Takes control of Puerto Rico. Near the end of the Spanish American war, U.S. troops took control of the island of Puerto Rico from Spain. With little resistance the 108 mile long island was taken with only 7 American deaths. After the signing of the Armistice the island was formally handed over to the United States on this date.

1931 – Thomas Alva Edison dies. Credited with many of the things we now take for granted. Among just a few of his inventions were the phonograph, the incandescent light bulb. The forerunner of the movie camera and projector. The first alkaline battery, the first electric railroad, but most important of all he developed the first complete electrical distribution system to power New York city.
